Luis Guillermo Vázquez de Lara Cisneros, MD, PhD

In 2021, Dr. Luis Vázquez de Lara Cisneros was appointed the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) in Puebla, Mexico. He studied Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, and received a specialty in Anesthesiology in the Hospital “Darío Fernández” in Mexico City. He completed a Master’s in Science in Biomedical Sciences with a focus in Molecular Biology and a Doctorate in Medicine from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he was awarded the “Belisario Dominguez Medal” as the best PhD student of his class. Further, Dr. Lara completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Penn State College of Medicine. Since 2004, he has served as a professor-researcher and the head of the Experimental Medicine lab at the BUAP College of Medicine, been an active researcher of pulmonary fibrosis, and published prolifically in this and related areas. Dr. Lara is a passionate educator, with a special interest in helping students understand the social-cultural context of health.
